Do English Education Department Students Experience Communication Apprehension? An Investigation of Their Level and Strategies

In recent decades, investigation on students’ communication apprehension has emerged after being abandoned. It is believed classroom interaction in oral competency consists of activities which mainly facilitate them to develop their skill. However, not all students have the same ability communication. This study aims investigate level and strategies used overcome. The Personal Report Communication Apprehension-24 instrument was measure apprehension, analyzed with quantitative descriptive. Interview conducted find out overcome it. data collection method carried by distributing 20 respondents, English education department Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta. obtained form questionnaire transcription as its formula, while interview be through reduction, display, conclusion drawing/verification. results showed that 5 were categorized low level, 3 average 12 experienced high level. Efforts done are cognitive, affective social strategies. Based findings, it can declared majority they preferred strategy reduce apprehension. Findings research demanded lecturers conduct meaningful such group discussion promote autonomous practice.
